photographer envy: griffin lamb

3.20.2014

For some time now I’ve had an insane Instagram crush. Griffin Lamb is an amazing photographer that I started following because of Folk Magazine. He resides and photographs around the Pacific North West, and each and every single one of his photos take my breath away. There is a power in mother nature that is expressed through his images. It is utterly beautiful. You feel the expansiveness of spaces, the rush water, and how little we humans really are. Lord, I need to visit and see if for myself. For now, Griffin Lamb, I’ll be living vicariously through your stunning photographs. Thank you for putting them out there for the world to see.

the freedom to wander

3.10.2014

A good wander, that's what I've been craving. My feet, my heart, my thoughts, my eyes. Let's all ditch our plans. Throw out the neatly typed to-do's. Do away with the calender color coded by task. Our souls need to get lost. How else are they ever going to find their way back again?

That little voice, she tells me that I don't have the time. She tells me I have to stick to the plan. This moment needs to be productive. Stray away and life will come crumbling down.

The truth is, this moment can go one of two ways. Whose to say which be the better? What are we afraid of in freedom?

Can someone please tell me? I want to know the secret. Whisper it in my ear. Disclose the right way.

Show me the path so that I may step my two shaky feet upon it. They are frightened to death, but their eagerness is not easy to tame. They're smart, you see. Now more than ever. They need to wander.

caru skincare co.

2.22.2014

Remember those exciting projects I mentioned from Brooklyn? Well these are some favorite snaps from one of them. I stopped by the studio of Caru Skincare Co. to get to know the owner and brand. Her products are entirely natural, fresh, botanical, and ethically produced. She sent me home with the Rock& Rose Toner, Jojoba Oil Moisturizer, and French Green Clay Soap. I’m in love with all of them, and have to say – they really work! Her products are amazing and they’re also not super expensive. Not to mention, there is such a beautiful mission behind it all. Go read my full interview with the founder here.

photographer envy: berta tilmantaite

1.31.2014

It's true. A picture is worth 10,000 words. I look at the work of Berta Tilmantaite and feel as though I'm traveling around the world with her. From place to place I get a sense for the people, the landscape, and a way of life that is so foreign to me. You can see it on the people's faces. In Georgia the norm is a grimace and in Indonesia the smiles are full of joy. It tells a history. It exposes reality.

How I would love to be a photo journalist doing just that. I want to travel. I want to see the world and capture it all with my lens. Through a couple mirrors, some light, and a snap we're able to convey a world of truth that connects people all across the world. I look at Berta's Facebook, and she's meeting people, talking to strangers, and soaking in the beauty of who they are as an individual and a representation of their place in the world. She goes anywhere and is fearless. I want to do that, uncover the story of mankind and communicate it to others.

Berta Tilmantaite's work hits my aspirations on the head. She's does it too perfectly. Do browse her work and videos if you get the chance. It is all phenomenal.

maria cornejo and mark borthwick's brooklyn pad

1.12.2014

How great is the home of fashion designer Maria Cornejo and her photographer husband Mark Borthwick? I love the open format and strong emphasis on natural elements. It's like an over-run forest clashing with modernity. How about the view of that garden outside? The pad itself is in Brooklyn where couple resides with their two teenage sons. Imagine growing up this way!

Think that's good, here's some further reading on the inspiring couple.
