Life has taken a turn for the busier. You'll have to forgive me for the silence that has ensued because of it. I know I've barely shared a peep, but I must admit, I don't feel entirely horrible about it. It's important to get out and experience life that is not set behind a computer screen. With the recent shift in weather, I've been making it a point to do so. I've been chasing dreams, laying in the grass, cooking up a storm, biking EVERYWHERE just because I can, and trying to make it to as many yoga classes as possible.

I do want to call out a few special moments that have happened recently though....
1. Adam's band had their first show! It was such a fun night of free beer, free souls, and free rock n' roll.
2. We finally bought a vine! Now I just want more. :)
3. This little one is back in my life and we've been having a ball. This shot was taken while enjoying the weather at Penn Treaty park on a Saturday afternoon.
4. My new favorite thing is to pick up fresh fish from Ipolito's Seafood. They got what's good.
5. Check out this post I did on cream vs. oil moisturizer! I'm a total convert.
6. Yes, succulent vines do exist. And yes, I will own one someday.
7. God I love this girl. She is one of the best, kindest, funniest, good-to-be-around people you'll ever come across. Anyone who gets to meet her in their life is damn lucky. I'm so happy to have been one of those people!
8. I almost started a chicken farm in our way-too-small of a backyard when I met these babes (or should I say chicks) at Greensgrow
9. Adam & I started a food blog! Go check it out!

Oh, and I'm heading to San Diego next month! Anyone with suggestions of where I should go, visit, stay, eat, etc. please drop me a line in the comments! I hope everyone's spring is off to as glorious a start as my own. Much love. xx

weekly scenes: the highs and lows

1.20.2014

Call it hormones, or call it life. The past couple weeks have had a lot of ups and downs. When the lows roll in, man it’s defeating. Thank god for the people who help talk it out.

But let’s not dwell on the negative. There have been so many great things that have happened too. Babies being born, pancake breakfasts, belly laughs, new opportunities...those are things to focus on.

In every life there will be downs, we just can’t let them kill us. If anything, they are lessons to better ourselves. Use the energy of those highs to push on through the bad. I'm not perfect. None's perfect. That's life.

The indoors are getting cozy. Do you feel it?
Winter has moved her way in, making morning toast and heartfelt gifts all the more warming to the soul.
Not that I don't enjoy nature in winter. Oh, very contrary.
She's quiet. She's exposed. She's beautiful.
But she's cold. And she circles her cool breeze around pockets of warmth, creating small cocoons for living creatures to find refuge.
Bright lights ignite rooms while snow crystals fall outside the window.
Four walls are a tightly wrapped blanket of love, light, and happiness.
Here, we find our comfort and what it means to be cozy.

I've been starting to feel, for the first time ever, like a consistently balanced person. Life just is, things just go, and it works. I feel good.

Up until recently, I have to say, it's been something of a challenge. I'm a weird mix of a person. I like to dance to DJ's and love fashion, but on the other side, I'm practicing yoga and using my CSA to make foods from scratch. It's a strange dichotomy, but all of these people live inside me, and they all need to be expressed. When I'm not making time for a little of everything, I get out of balance.

Recently, it's been coming naturally. After a few long years of mindfulness, listening to myself, and doing what feels right, things are starting to click. I mix it up and make every piece of me happy. Life feels pretty damn good because of it.

Life is good, boys and girls. My favorite season is here, and I've been enjoying every last drop. My parents came to visit for the weekend, and they stayed here at the house. I loved welcoming them (and their two dogs) in. Watching guests relax on the couch and preparing lunch made it feel like a real home. It allowed me to sit back and admire the space Adam and I have created. It really is homey and cozy.

With my parents here, we also went out to several delicious meals. Brunch, dinner, as always, we ate well. Of note, we got to try out new local spot, Noord. Their Scandanavian plates were creative, elevated, and completely original. Unlike anything else in the city, compliments were flying out my mouth the whole meal.

The following weekend, Marley and I went on a solo walk in the woods. We found the Indian statue at Wissahickon after many attempts to do so. It was great to enjoy this beautiful season as thoughts worked themselves out in my head. There is so much to think about, to figure out. Nothing bad, but I find there's a constant need to question, to mull over ideas, and to plan for the future. Without time to do so, I can get a bit lost. It makes me feel very grounded getting back to nature with my thoughts and my dog.

It's been a good string of days.

Boy have I been all over in that last couple of weeks. I made it to NYC for a quick visit with my good friend Ariane. She just got a new puppy this year, Minka, and I had so much fun hanging out with the little tyke again. He's a goofy little guy with, let's face it, killer looks. Another highlight was when Wanderlust came to Philly. It was a perfect 70 degree day. Thousands of yogis flocked to the piazza. I never even knew so many Philadelphian's practiced yoga. The feeling of having all those souls in one place to practice was overwhelmingly joyous. You couldn't help but have a great day from there on out. Not to mention, the whole thing was free

Among all of the excitement, I've sure been savoring my weekends as much as possible. My favorite kind of weekend is the productive relaxing kind, and I'm proud to say, I've been very good at achieving them lately. Those little relaxing moments, full of beauty and fulfillment, really help to make everything worthwhile.

Summer is finally in full swing, and life has been good. My garden is blooming like crazy. We finally ate our first pickings from the vegetables, and it was so satisfactory. I've also been out and about a lot. Brunches across town with good friends, work trips to NYC, and little adventures to the beach have all made their way into the past week. I've been happily tiring myself out for the sake of enjoyment. There is just so much to enjoy these days...
